Got questions? We've got answers. Check out our frequently asked questions to learn more about our services and how we can assist you.

What does the recording process look like?

Typically, we begin with a review of your songs and see if anything needs to be refined. Our first step is recording drums, then bass, then guitars/keys/synths, vocals, and anything extra. Once everything is recorded, depending on the size of your project it could take 1-4 weeks to receive your mixes back. We then revise the mix together from there.

What should I bring to the studio?

You can bring lots of things! We are always open to using your instruments/amps. Anything that can give us more options of sounds and help us achieve a unique sound tapered for your project! We love working with unusual instruments as well that we may not have available in our studio.

How should I prepare for the studio?

We encourage our artists to come with their songs practiced for the sake of time, and to have your songwriting finished in your eyes so we can work quicker to refine them and get to recording! If possible, also have the BPM of your demos and the key of the songs on hand for a smoother recording process.

Preparing your instruments:

Throw new drum heads on your drums, stretch them out a bit and run through your songs at home on them to break the new heads in, but only for about an hour. Fresh heads are going to get the best tones out of your drums. (Kick drum may not need a new head but really depends on how old it is. if possible, bring extra heads. It is rare for heads to break during recording but anything is possible.

Put some fresh strings on your guitars and bass. Stretch them out and play on them a bit as well before coming to the studio. Make sure they are tuned up with no fret buzz and ready to go for recording! It is recommended to bring extra sets of strings in case one breaks during recording.

If you forget to bring extra heads or strings, don't worry! There are parts available for sale at our building and other music stores close by!

Is there parking at the studio?

There is street parking for the studio on the streets around. We usually recommend parking on Harvester St. or Hano St.

However, there is a loading bay in the front of the building for loading in your gear if you bring any. Cars can be in the loading bay for a maximum of 15 minutes.

Do you have coffee?

We all love coffee. And tea! We have a Nespresso machine with espresso and coffee cups, an electric tea kettle, a refrigerator, and a microwave to warm up lunch!

For mixing, how do I send you my multi-track stems?

(If you are recording with us, no need to worry about this)

We offer a mixing package if you have good raw recordings from your home studio or another professional studio. In order to send over your multi-track stems, there are many YouTube videos on how to do so, but also follow these guidelines:

  • Make sure you are recording in 24-bit at a 48khz sample rate so there are no hiccups for us. If your recording is not in these settings, please let us know when sending them to us so that we can change our settings in Protools to match.

  • Make sure you have the proper edits and fades/crossfades on all of your tracks. If you do not have them edited properly, we. can do that for you at an extra fee.
  • You must highlight all of your tracks in your DAW from the end of the song to the beginning of the session, then 'consolidate' all of your tracks. This will make it so that they all have the same starting point when we drag them in to our DAW, and we do not have to drag separate tracks around guessing where they go in the song.

  • Export those consolidated tracks as .wav files and save them to a folder on your computer or hard drive.

  • Send that folder to us at poolhousestudios33@gmail.com via Dropbox or Google Drive and make the subject line "Your Artist/Band Name - For Mixing". Please leave your contact information in the email as well.
  • In that email, give us some references to other albums you'd like us to listen to to get closer to what sound you are looking for for your project!
